Easter

All the eggs have been dyed, all the candy has been eaten and all my decorations have been put away, Easter is over for another year.

It was a great Easter weekend, despite some rainy weather on Saturday. That rain cancelled the Easter Egg Hunt in our town so we had to think of something else to do. We decided on the Air and Space museum out in Dulles. It was a great choice to beat the rain. Both the kids and the adults had a fantastic time!

After the museum we headed home to dye eggs and BBQ. The rain had cleared and the sun was out, it was a perfect afternoon! I think Henry is the most serious Easter egg dyer, I have ever seen. The kid was all business.

That night the Easter bunny hopped through town and hid the Easter baskets. Henry found his and Baby Alexa's in the pantry while Julia had to look high up to find hers....on top of the Grandfather clock. That Easter bunny is tricky!

Julia went right for the Bunny ears while Henry was more excited about the matchbox cars and fruit snacks. After a quick look through of their baskets we headed out to church.

It was about 500 degrees and Henry was asking to go down the slides. Charlie took him out to the slides and the rest of us just sweated through mass. After the homily the heat had taken over and we were ready to go, we ran into Charlie bringing Henry back in. At this point you could hear the sweat dripping off people, that is how quiet it was, then you hear Henry scream "I'm done!" The lady next to us and half the people in the vestibule chucked and one lady was like, yes we kid, we are all done.

When we got back home the Easter bunny had hidden eggs so we did a little hunt around the yard. Julia and Henry did a great job finding all the eggs.

Easter dinner was delicious! We even had a special appearance by Uncle Chad. Those hams were lucky they were so good, because after looking in three grocery stores, I was about fed up. I did make the cake, I posted below. It came out great!

Soon after dessert we said good bye to the Baker's. Henry missed Julia as soon as they pulled out of the driveway. Even last night he was still asking if she was going to come back this weekend.

It was the perfect Easter weekend and I can't wait to do it again next year!

Too much Family?

Apparently, I'm an odd ball. The fact that I am giddy about our family coming to visit this weekend makes me strange?

I was at the grocery store this morning before work. I think in the future I will be doing this more often - no child and no line - pure heaven. Anyway, I was looking for our Easter ham, they had nothing larger then 8lbs - I need 10lbs. I ask the guy behind the counter, he says that is all we have. He was shocked that I needed a larger one. I explained to him, I have 12 people for dinner and they like to eat. His look was like why would anyone have that many people for dinner? My look was, why not?

I LOVE having a full house. There is nothing like sitting around with family....talking, laughing, drinking wine and eating. In this visit from family...Steve and Charlie will crack jokes, Nadine and I will have tears coming down our face from laughing, Julia and Henry will be doing what they do and Mom will be taking it all in.  We are adding Baby Alexa and she will do what she does best, looking cute! How could you not want all this?????

To me if your family is not also your friend then what fun is it. These are our best friends and we can't get rid of them ;)  Yeah there are times we probably all want to kill each other but that is what makes such great dynamics.

This weekend is going to be a total blast and I am going to be so sad on Sunday when the house is empty again!

Weekend Update

You know it is a good weekend when you are asleep on the couch at 9:15pm on Sunday AND when at 7:30am Monday your child is still asleep.

Our weekend was filled with crazy weather, old friends, a ton of walking and lots of laughs!

Saturday was our day with crazy weather. It rained and rained and rained. Luckily we were headed to the Baltimore Aquarium. Everyone raves about the aquarium but for the price of the ticket, we certainly did not think it was worth it. Don't get me wrong Henry loved the shark tanks and the dolphins but unless we missed something there wasn't much else there. It was also about 900 degrees in there and you can't bring strollers. Carrying a 30 pound kid around is not all that easy. Yes, of course he could walk but to see most of the stuff he had to be picked up.

After the aquarium we met our friends at M&S Grill. They came down to visit us for the weekend. We were all suppose to go to the aquarium but with traffic and the weather it just did not work out. After a drink and Henry spilling an entire cup of water we headed home. Henry decided to finally nap at 5pm.

Sunday we were up bright and early and were headed downtown to DC. The weather was PERFECT! Sunny skies and warmth. We checked out A museum and the Archives. Henry loved the steps at the archives while Daddy and the rest of the group waited in line.

After that we ate a quick lunch outside and headed over to the White House. I'm not sure when this started but you could not go up to the gates of the White House anymore. You were a gate, a sidewalk, a street, another sidewalk and a Jersey barrier away from it. It was a little annoying but needless to say we got our pics.

After some pictures we were on our walking way to the World War II Memorial. Probably one of my favorites. The kids were getting tired and I think the adults were too. So after a walk around the Memorial we went home.

After dinner our friends left and I was sad to see them go but knew I would see them soon. I also realized that we didn't get a picture of all of us together!

Soon after I started cleaning up a little, and realized I was exhausted. I sat on the couch and was asleep no later then 9:30pm. All that walking and catching up must have knocekd me out.

This week is going to be BUSY, BUSY, BUSY! Friday all the family rolls in for a fun Easter weekend and we can't wait!

Wordful Wednesday

Henry had a lot to say this morning so I thought I would share some of his words with you.

I woke up to him slamming his door open and shut. Not sure why he never leaves his room and comes into ours, but, whatever. He had a book in his hand and wanted Daddy to read it. Charlie has an 8am meeting on Wednesdays so he was already gone.

Henry asked that we call Charlie so he could read the book. Luckily, Charlie knows the book by heart so we called and Henry flipped the pages of the book while Charlie "read" it over the phone.

The book is called "Where's My Teddy". It is a real cute book and we have read it every night for almost six months. Henry will actually yell out the words that he remembers because we have read it so many times.

After that he got crazy and started running around the house. I have been using the term the Easter Bunny is watching you to get him to calm down. We have bunnies all over the house so he alwasy points at them and says they are watching.

We finally get ready and get into the car for our wonderful trip to daycare (insert sarcasm). Henry in the car is a real treat lately. This morning he was taking the baggie full of gold fish and they were flying around. I then took the bag away and he started yelling in a rage.

I told him the bunny is watching him and that if he didn't stop the bunny would not bring him anything. You want to know his response......."The bunny doesn't bring anything, Mommy brings it". WTF! I'm sure it wasn't meant the way he said it, but the fact that he thinks it, just kills me.

Just another wordful Wednesday in this house.

Sunday Funday

Sunday Funday is not what it was in college or even life before Henry.

Sunday Funday was a trip to the farm in Blumont with friends and then a BBQ with more friends. Here is our day in pictures.

Now it is time for Mommy and Daddy to put their feet up and enjoy the last hours of the weekend.

Musical Therapy

The past week has been a little crazy and I have been stressed out to my eyeballs. I am starting to feel a little relief, which is nice.

This morning I hooked up the ipod in the car after dropping Henry off. I opened the sunroof and turned up the music. Was I singing at the top of my lungs, yes....was I dancing while sitting in traffic on 28, yes....did I care NO!

The songs were a little bit of this and a little bit of that...First up was JoDee Messina, Heads Carolina, Tails California and then Hootie and the Blowfish, Hold my Hand. Both were college flashback moments for me. It brought me back to when times were simple and hell of a lot of fun.

After that it was some Backstreet Boys....okay also a college flashback but definitely reminded me of great times in Jacksonville. It was a little, I want it that Way - Steve and Nadine you can picture it.

I pulled into the work parking lot and my final song was I Want you Back  by the Jackson 5 - I dare anyone to say they can't dance and sing to that song. Here try it

Did another car almost hit me in the parking lot and ruin my therapy, yes. Was it because he was watching me dance and sing, yes....but luckily he didn't hit me. He just smiled.

I felt so much better after all my dancing and singing, it was exactly what I needed.
