Times they are a Changing

I don't usually talk about my job or anything related to work on the blog, it's about the kids or what we are doing as a family, but now it is time.

On Wednesday, I got a call from HR. I work in HR so I wasn't too surprised and then she said it, "Hold on, Amy, I need to get "Insert bosses name here" on the phone. I knew exactly where this conversation was going. If you have never been laid off, then you probably won't know that the next thing said to you is, "It was a pleasure working with you, but we need to let  you go." At this point your heart sinks and you think, shit, now what are we going to do.

I wasn't given a very long notice and was told my last day was today. Gee, thanks, I busted my butt for four years, numerous bankruptcy filings, an accounting team sitting in our office and reworking are whole company, and you give me two days? Wow.

My first call is Charlie. Of course we go into crazy mode, because as you know, we are building a new house. We were preapproved with two incomes and now one income. We are still working on that part, but I think we should be okay.

Next, how are we going to afford a new house, two kids in daycare and me with no job. Well, that is easy, Mary is no longer going to be in daycare and Henry will finish out the year and be home with us this summer. It will be entertaining keeping two kids and trying to find a job, but it is what is and we will make it work. It's going to be tight, but hey, we can do this.

So, if anyone needs someone to work from home some days and help run the back office of their company, let me know, I might know someone who can help you.

Jewel Tetsey

I took this picture of Mary at bedtime tonight.

She has no idea that, that doll is over 25 years old or that her name is Jewel Tetsey. Nor does she know that it's an original from the Cabbage Patch Store in NYC or the fact that her Mommy hand picked her from the store or that Nana and Grandfy waited in a long cold line to get into the store.

She has been carrying that doll around all day. For months she has been eyeing her in her closet, but I wasn't ready to pass her down. Then, today, I thought it was time. She lit up and was so excited to play with her and have her meet her other baby.

I was excited to see her play with a doll, I played with daily. It's kind of cool to see things passed down. So, I guess my mom keeping things was the right idea, and that I should probably do the same for Mary.

And...Dad, this does not mean you can bring the Barbie Dream house, circa 1980, that will have to wait.
